Entlebucher paintings by Janet L. Wissmann, shows a watercolor portrait of an Entlebucher dog (one of the Berner Sennenhunde). These eager, energetic dogs are from the Berner Oberland in Switzerland. Janet's painting is of a young dog she saw and photographed in 2001 at the U.S. Bernese Mountain Dog Club's National Specialty in Spokane, Washington.

"Jasper is our second Berner, and this is the second portrait Janet painted for us. You see, our Heart of Michigan Bernese Mountain Dog Club surprised my husband John with Janet's portrait of Ruby (our first Berner) in thanks for work he did on behalf of our organization, and we were both blown away by it! Janet also offers black-and-white Berner designs on business cards, as shown below. These are from her pen and ink drawings of Berner puppies. Price is about $125 for 1000 cards. An exact quote can be given once you tell us what you want. Layouts shown are examples of what can be done. Kennel names can be a color other than black, such as blue, red, green, brown, and dark blue. Ink is attractive raised thermography ink and paper is white vellum cardstock. Prices start at $180 for the first 1000 cards. A non-refundable 50% deposit is required to start; Janet will email you a mock-up of your card. After the mock-up is approved, the balance will be due.

Watercolorist Janet Wissmann has painted over sixty individual Bernese Mountain Dogs in her career! She finds that Berners' colors, markings, personalities, and mannerisms are a joy to paint. And she can absolutely verify that no two Bernese Mountain Dogs look alike!




About the artist

In 1982, Janet L. Wissmann began painting commissioned dog portraits in transparent watercolor. Janet portrays the personality of a pet with great sensitivity and honesty, and provides pet owners with fine artworks that last a lifetime. The artist also offers limited-edition prints of draft horses, dogs, wolves, and cats, as well as various original watercolor paintings. Animals, plants, and the natural world are her favorite subjects. Wolves and draft horses continue to be a favorite, as well as birds and wildflowers.

A degree in wildlife ecology and a keen interest in native plants help Janet understand her subjects, and, of course, her own pets never fail to provide inspiration for new paintings. Additional advanced studies include botanical illustration at Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History and stone lithography at the University of Illinois. For over a decade, Janet has been a member of the prestigious Society of Animal Artists, which boasts a membership of some of the best animal artists in the world.
